Year 3
Welcome to Year 3
Our classes are named after famous musicians, John Lennon and Aretha Franklin. During the opening two weeks of the year, we base our learning around their lives and achievements.
Highlights in Year 3 include:
visiting Creswell Crags to support the children’s understanding of Prehistoric Britain and the scientific topic Rocks and Soils;
experiencing the life of a Roman soldier when the children take a trip to Houlgate
A normal day in Year 3 begins with Spelling before moving onto English and Maths. After lunch, we focus on wider areas of the curriculum such as Science, History, Geography and Art. Before leaving for home, the children will practise their reading skills attend a whole-school assembly.
Our PE and Games lessons are timetabled for a Tuesday and Thursday. However, we advise that PE kits are brought into school on a Monday and taken home again on a Friday, just incase.
In Year 3, the children are expected to practise their spelling, reading and maths skills at home. Children should read four times a week from any text they wish (whether a school book or one from home). Every child’s spellings and Maths homework will be accessible on the Google Classroom. Homework is handed out on a Thursday and is expected to be handed back on the following Monday, having completed the Yellow and Green tasks. Blue is optional. However, we actively encourage the children to try to apply their skills to complete these challenging activities. In addition, TT Rockstars is an excellent resource for children to practise times tables.
