Allotment Competition 2015

The pupils in all classes took part in the allotment competition.  Throughout the year the classes each have their own raised bed; but as an added incentive, each year, in conjunction with Broughton Allotment Association we hold a competition to find the best-raised bed.  The members of the association judge the class beds and the winners are announced in a special assembly.

Learning how to grow plants, flowers and vegetables we see as an important part of a child’s social and emotional development.  Producing healthy vegetables, which are then included in recipes cooked in our own pupil kitchen and our own school lunchtime provision is a good way of learning how to eat more healthily and live more productive lives.  Working with the Allotment Association is part of developing our British Values of community, partnership and shared values.  It brings the school pupils, families and grandparents together with a common purpose, which benefits everybody concerned.
